Un año de la reversión de La Ribera (Capítulo 1)

En apenas un año hemos podido comprobar que la decisión más controvertida del Gobierno Valenciano, -la estatalización de la gestión del Departamento de Salud de La Ribera-, no está dando los frutos que esperaban los grandes defensores de la sanidad 100% pública.

Lo cierto es que después de 365 días, el Departamento de Salud de La Ribera (Alzira) ni funciona igual, ni mejor que antes; más bien todo lo contrario, está en declive. Lo siento mucho por todos aquellos que vaticinaban que Alzira moriría de éxito una vez se desmarcara de la gestión privada.

In just one year we have seen that the most controversial decision of the Valencian Regional Government, the return to public management of La Ribera Healthcare Department, is not bearing the fruits anticipated by the major advocates of 100% public health.

The truth is that after 365 days, La Ribera Healthcare Department (Alzira) neither works the same nor better than before; rather the opposite holds true, it is in decline. I am very sorry for all those who predicted that Alzira would be a victim of its own success once it rid itself of private management.

Are the Audit Office reports worth the paper they are printed on?

Yesterday, the newspaper Valencia Plaza published an in-depth interview with Vicent Cucarella, the President of the Audit Office. An interview that caught my attention and that I read with great interest because of the resounding statement the journalist chose as the title: “We have no objection to submitting ourselves to more checks, but not as a political ‘vendetta’”. Throughout the interview, Cucarella honestly reflects on transparency and accountability. The fact is that the reports, studies and analyses produced by the institution he presides ‘are worth the paper they are printed on’, despite some sectors insisting that they are unfounded, or perhaps they do not respond to their prejudices?

¿Son los informes de la Sindicatura de Comptes papel mojado?

El periódico Valencia Plaza publicó ayer una entrevista en profundidad a Vicent Cucarella, el Síndic Major de Comptes. Una entrevista que captó mi atención y que leí con mucho interés por la afirmación tan rotunda que eligió el periodista para titularla: «No tenemos inconveniente en someternos a más controles, pero no como una ‘vendetta’ política». Como ésta, a lo largo de la entrevista, Cucarella nos regala auténticas reflexiones sobre la transparencia y la rendición de cuentas y es que los informes, estudios y análisis que se elaboran desde la institución que preside ‘no son papel mojado’ por mucho que, desde algunos sectores, se insista en que carecen de fundamento, ¿o más bien es que no responden a sus prejuicios?

The original sin of the Alzira Model

With this post on my blog, I bid farewell to 2018, for many reasons an unforgettable year, both for me and for all the Ribera Salud team. It has been twelve months full of extraordinary news, not all good, but our team is not easily intimidated, and we look to the future; we know how to pull ourselves together and overcome setbacks, how to adapt to the circumstances of the moment and think of a brighter future. I am particularly proud of all the professionals who are part of the Ribera Salud family, since I have learnt a lot from them over the year. Without their efforts, dedication and passionate work, we would not have achieved the results that we obtained.

Con esta entrada en mi blog le digo adiós a 2018. Un año que, por muchos motivos, va a ser para mí y para todo el equipo de Ribera Salud inolvidable. Han sido doce meses de extraordinarias noticias, también de alguna mala, pero somos un equipo que no se amedranta, que mira hacia adelante, que sabe levantarse de las caídas y sobreponerse de los golpes, que sabe adaptarse a las circunstancias del momento, que piensa en el futuro con ilusión. Me siento especialmente orgulloso de todos los profesionales que forman parte de la familia de Ribera Salud porque de todos ellos he aprendido mucho este año y sin su esfuerzo, dedicación y apasionada entrega no hubiéramos conseguido los resultados que hemos obtenido.
